Dudley reads as two towns at once
Dudley sits right on the Connecticut line, which makes it one of the shortest runs we make into Massachusetts. The town reads as two places at once. There is mill-era housing close to the French River and the Webster line, and there are quieter residential streets and newer construction spread out toward the hills.
River-bottom air stays damp, and damp air feeds algae. It shows up first on the north wall and on the lower courses of siding where the sun never gets a fair shot. Older painted clapboard needs a light hand, so we soft wash at low pressure with plant-safe detergent, wet the landscaping down before we start, and rinse it again when we finish.
