Stafford is several places at once. Stafford Springs is the borough, dense and built up along the Willimantic River where the woolen mills ran. Staffordville and West Stafford are quieter. Past those the town turns to hill farm and forest, with Route 190 and Route 32 tying it together.

The borough housing is the interesting half of the work. Multi families and worker houses from the mill years, three stories in places, narrow side yards, porches, and a lot of original wood buried under later siding. None of that takes pressure. We soft wash it, meaning a biodegradable detergent does the cleaning at low pressure and the rinse is only a rinse. Painted clapboard and old glazing come through that fine.
