River villages and old stone

Lincoln is a string of mill villages along the Blackstone

Lincoln is not one place. Lonsdale, Manville, and Saylesville each grew around their own mill on the Blackstone, Great Road holds some of the oldest buildings in the state, and Lincoln Woods covers the ledge in the middle of town. Route 146 and Route 123 tie it together.

Village housing sits close and sits low, two and three stories with small side yards and plenty of painted wood. Cleaning it well is mostly restraint and setup. Detergent at low pressure on the siding, ladders placed with the neighbor's car in mind, plants covered or wet down, downspouts flushed rather than poked at.

Stone and brick show up more here than in most towns. Old mortar and soft brick will not take a pressure washer, so those get chemistry and patience instead. Concrete walks and drives are the exception and get a surface cleaner.

Up by Lincoln Woods the lots are bigger and shadier, and the calls shift to roof algae and gutters full of oak leaves.
