Cumberland changes character as you drive north

The southern end of Cumberland is Valley Falls, close built and busy, right on the Blackstone. Head north through Ashton and Berkeley and the lots get wider. By the time you reach Arnold Mills and Diamond Hill it is stone wall, ledge, and woods. Route 114 and Route 122 run the length of it.

Down south the housing is older and tighter. Two and three family homes, small yards, driveways barely wider than a car. Work like that is about setup as much as cleaning, ladders placed with care, overspray controlled, and a soft wash rather than pressure on any painted surface.

North of Diamond Hill the calls change. Bigger lots, more tree cover, and gutters that fill twice each fall. Roofs on the shaded slope streak dark with algae, which comes off with detergent at low pressure rather than force.

Concrete is the common thread. Driveways, walks, and steps all gray out over a few winters, and a surface cleaner brings them back evenly instead of leaving wand marks. Figure $150 to $400 for a driveway depending on size.
