Up and over the mountain

Avon runs from the river up onto the ridge

Avon sits in the Farmington Valley with the traprock ridge along its eastern side, and Route 44 climbs right over it. Route 10 runs north to south along the valley floor, the Farmington River crosses the town, and Nod Brook drains the flats. Housing goes from valley subdivisions to homes set well up the hillside.

The hill properties come with long, steep driveways, often asphalt and often stained where cars sit. Concrete aprons, garage pads, and the walks up to a front door take the worst of the freeze and thaw. A surface cleaner does that work evenly rather than leaving wand marks across the slab.

Route 44 carries a lot of traffic, and houses close to it collect road film that will not rinse off with water alone. The answer there is detergent with time to work on the exposed elevation, then a low pressure rinse.

Everything else follows the valley pattern, algae on shaded elevations and dark streaking on the roof slope facing away from the sun. Siding and shingles get plant safe detergent, never a wand.

Avon is a long drive for us, so we take it by request. Text photos to (860) 553-9326 for a flat price and a candid answer on timing.
