North Kingstown holds two centuries at once
Wickford is the part of North Kingstown people picture, a harbor village of 18th and early 19th century houses standing close to the street with almost no side yard. Saunderstown sits south toward the bridge, and Quonset and Davisville at the north end are all commerce and industry. Route 1, Route 1A, and Route 4 stitch it together.
Wickford houses are the definition of a soft wash job. Old wood, old paint, old glass, and a neighbor four feet away. The detergent does everything, the pressure stays at a level that will not push water into a lap joint, and the setup takes as long as the cleaning. Plantings get wet down first and rinsed at the end.
Salt off the bay does the same thing here it does everywhere on this shore. It holds damp against a wall, and algae follows.
On the Quonset side the work changes completely. Commercial buildings, loading areas, and concrete that wants actual pressure. We send a certificate of insurance before starting and can work outside business hours.
