Rivers, not open ocean

Barrington sits on brackish water under big trees

Barrington is wrapped in water, the Barrington and Warren Rivers on one side, the Palmer River and Hundred Acre Cove behind, and Nayatt and Rumstick Points reaching into the bay. Route 114 runs the length of it and the bike path follows the old rail line along the water.

This is not open ocean, and the difference matters. There is less salt spray here than out on the islands, but a good deal more shade. Barrington has heavy mature canopy over its streets and houses, and shade plus river damp is exactly what roof algae and green siding want.

So the calls here run to roofs and gutters more than salt. Dark streaking comes down the shaded slope, and the canopy fills gutters twice each fall, which is worth clearing before the first hard freeze.

Brick shows up more in Barrington than in most towns nearby, and old brick and mortar will not take pressure. Those get chemistry, patience, and a low pressure rinse.

Barrington is a long run from our shop, so it goes on by request. Text photos to (860) 553-9326 for a flat price and an honest answer about timing.
