Window Cleaning in Woodstock, CT

Woodstock has more individual panes of glass per house than any town we work in. The center-chimney colonials and the big farmhouses along Route 169 and Route 197 carry true divided-light sash, six over six, nine over six, now and then twelve over twelve. One window in the wall is really eighteen separate pieces of glass with eighteen sets of edges and corners that all have to come out dry and clear.

That is exactly why we price this work by the pane instead of by the window. Residential window cleaning is $8 per pane with a $200 minimum. A newer house adds up quickly in square footage and slowly in panes. A Woodstock farmhouse does the opposite. Counting before quoting is the only way both owners get a number that reflects the work.

There is no quick method for a nine over six sash. Every light gets worked on its own, the muntin edges get detailed by hand, and the glazing putty gets left alone rather than scraped at. On glass that has been sitting in the same frame for well over a century the surface is no longer perfectly smooth, and a hurried pass leaves streaks that a patient one does not.

These houses also run tall in the gable ends. Almost every colonial around Woodstock Hill has a pair of windows up under the roof peak that get cleaned about once a decade, because nobody wants to set a ladder there on soft ground at the end of a long driveway. We bring the setup for those and we do them.
