Downtown height, narrow side yards, uneven ground
Traffic is what separates Putnam glass from glass anywhere else in the Quiet Corner. Route 44 and Route 12 both run through town, and any house close to either one collects a fine road film on every window facing the road. Through the winter that film carries sand and salt with it. It dries to a grey haze you stop seeing until one pane gets cleaned and the rest of the wall suddenly looks filthy next to it.
The valley does not help. Putnam sits low along the Quinebaug, the damp hangs around, and damp turns loose dust into a bonded film instead of something the next storm carries off.
We are ten minutes down Route 44 in Pomfret, so this is one of the shortest drives we make.
The three story multi-family houses through the older part of Putnam, out toward the mill at Cargill Falls and across the antique district, are the tallest residential windows we clean. Side yards are narrow, the ground is rarely level, and the top floor sash sits well above anything a person should be reaching from a step ladder with a bucket in the other hand. That is the whole argument for handing this one off. We set up properly for the height, and the third floor gets the same attention as the first instead of being quietly skipped because it was awkward.
Past the Route 12 split the job changes completely. Capes and ranches, everything reachable, mostly modern insulated sash running two or three panes per window rather than twelve. Those houses move fast, and pricing by the pane is what keeps that fair. Residential window cleaning is $8 per pane with a $200 minimum, so a small ranch and a tall downtown block are not charged the same way just because both are called a house. See our window cleaning page for what a standard clean covers.

Salt spray, sprinkler spotting, and two calls a year
Two kinds of marking show up here on top of ordinary dirt. The first is road salt spray, a late winter and early spring problem on the houses close to the routes, and you want it off the glass before a few sunny days bake it in. The second is hard water from irrigation heads and hose bibs catching the bottom sash. Mineral spotting is not dirt. Soap and a squeegee will not touch it, so tell us it is there and we will treat it as its own step rather than pretending a normal wash clears it.
For most Putnam houses twice a year is the honest answer. Once in spring after the sand is off the roads, once in fall before the heating season puts a film on the inside.
Text photos or a window count to (860) 553-9326 and we will send a flat price back. If the siding is carrying the same road film as the glass, it is worth pricing a house washing at the same time. Putnam is one of many towns in the areas we serve.
Every exterior surface, one local crew.
From house and roof washing to gutters, decks, driveways, and pavers, we handle the whole exterior. The same two owners who quote the job are the ones who show up to do it.

Owners on Every Job
Applewood is run by two Pomfret natives, friends since elementary school. One of us is on site for every job, not a rotating crew.
2-Step Power Washing System
First we apply manufacturer-approved detergents that kill mold and algae at the root. Then we rinse with controlled pressure that protects surfaces. That's how we get results that actually last.
Fully Licensed & Insured
General liability and workers' comp on every job. Certificate of insurance on request. Plant-safe soft wash, owner-operated on every job.
